Getting Started In Wholesale Resell

Many people work from home making a great living by selling products online. They sell all types of merchandise from electronics, to designer fashions, to shoes, to pet supplies. If you are thinking about starting your own retail business, either online or in a retail storefront, you need to find some good, reliable wholesale suppliers to provide you with wholesale resell items for you venture.

Where to Sell Your Items
Most people who want to start their own business start by selling their items online. They do this for many reasons including:
-    low startup cost
-    no rent
-    can work from home
-    can set your own hours
-    don't need to deal with customers face-to-face
-    can get started quickly
-    low marketing and advertising costs

Some reasons that people prefer to open a retail storefront and not an online store include:
-    not technically savvy
-    prefer to work set hours
-    want to get out of the house
-    enjoy meeting with people
-    want to build a physical asset

No matter which reasons you pick for starting your own business, you will need to establish a relationship with a wholesaler to provide you goods for resell.

Finding a Wholesaler
There are many ways you can find a wholesale supplier. One way is to simply ask your competition where they purchase their inventory. They can provide you with the name of a supplier. Another is to do an internet search. However, with these two methods, you might not find the best wholesale supplier for your particular store or retail operation. One good way to get a superior list of wholesale suppliers is to join an internet membership site that caters to sellers like you. These sites charge a nominal fee (usually it is a lifetime fee and is typically under $100) and they allow you to download a list of wholesalers offering all types of items for resell. These lists are kept up to date and the website has a phone number you can call for help and support. They will also have a user-to-user forum where resellers like you can share information about certain suppliers and items you may have received. This information is the most useful part of the membership. You will be advice here that you won't find anywhere else.

Working With Your Wholesale Supplier
Now that you have a list of wholesale suppliers, you need to read through the list to find the ones that sell the types of products you wish to carry and resell. You will find that there are usually multiple distributors that wholesale items in each specific industry whether it is electronics, books, designer fashion, pet supplies, or whatever. Once you have the list narrowed down to specific types of products, you need to check carefully what each wholesaler's terms and conditions are. For example, if you intend to sell your products on a worldwide market, some suppliers will only sell products to resellers who plan to sell in the U.S. Other suppliers may have a minimum order size that you may not be able to fill with each order. For example, one supplier may require you to purchase $1000 of designer handbags with each order. Obviously, if you want to buy in small lots of 2-3 units at a time, this wholesale supplier would not be for you. Or, some suppliers accept credit cards while others do not. If you are just getting started, it may be very convenient for you to work with a supplier that accepts credit cards as it may simplify getting your resale products more quickly.
